Crazy Susan's Crazy Turtle: Rachael Ray Show Snack of the Day!

Susan Adair, owner of Crazy Susan's Cookie Company in Ocean City NJ and Berlin Township resident, was thrilled to receive the phone call from the Rachael Ray Show! Adair's Crazy Turtle, a delectable cashew chocolate chip cookie topped with caramel and milk chocolate was selected to be the Snack of the Day on the Rachael Ray Show airing Wednesday, September 16th. Crazy Susan's is not your average cookie shop or bakery. Stop in for a few short minutes and you'll experience for yourself why everyone loves Crazy Susan and her crazy cookie recipes. Owner Susan Adair has spent all her 50 years in South Jersey and the name of her cookie shop fits her persona perfectly! She is a fun loving, good hearted individual who wins over her customers with her personality and just happens to bake the best cookies at the Jersey shore! After four short years, Crazy Susan's has become a destination in Ocean City, NJ. Repeat customers and word of mouth have been the basis for her success. If you ask Susan, she accredits the success to something more, as she truly believes her success is divine intervention.

It was March 2006 when Susan lost her 42 year old cousin, Joy, to a battle with ovarian cancer. It was a devastating time for the entire family. When a friend of Joy's ordered a tray of Susan's famous secret recipe chocolate chip cookies, Susan baked them up in her home kitchen and delivered them as she normally did. Joy's friend had just purchased a three story building in Ocean City and offered Susan the retail space on the bottom floor. This is just the opportunity Susan had been looking for, and found with the help of her dearly lost cousin! With a chocolate chip cookie recipe and a huge leap of faith, Susan opened Crazy Susan's Cookies during the 2006 summer season and has yet to look back!

Fortunately, Crazy Susan's first weekend in business was also that of Ocean City's "Nite in Venice", the largest boat parade and biggest party night of the year. With a plastic sign hanging from the window and no advertising budget, she started to bake. Crazy Susan mixed each batch by hand, since she did not yet purchase a mixer! She knew Joy would send her customers. By the end of the weekend fifteen family members were working in the store all under the gaze of Joy, whose picture hung ceremoniously on the wall.

Today, Joy's picture still hangs in the store for all Susan's customers to see, as they sample one of the more than twenty cookie varieties available. Susan's famous chocolate chip cookies have expanded into treats for the entire family from decorated cookie cakes, cookie pops and brownies to peanut butter or heath bar crunch and of course the Crazy Turtles--now the Snack of the Day on the Rachael Ray Show! Part cookie, part candy, ALL delicious!
